A billion views on YouTube? It’s an incredible number, but folks can’t seem to stop watching that video starring the South Korean singer named Psy prancing to his hit song called “Gangnam Style.” Now you can experience a bit of Gangnam yourself.
Gangnam is the name of an upscale neighborhood in South Korea’s capital of Seoul.
I recently shot one of my public television episodes on the world’s great destinations in South Korea, and it’s a country Americans often overlook in Asia. Only about 600,000 Americans visited South Korea in 2011, many just on business. But Seoul is a vibrant city filled with great restaurants, interesting architecture, and plenty of history.
Korea is a great success story. It was a pile of rubble after the Korean War, but its people pulled together to forge a new, prosperous nation. Psy’s hit has focused attention on Seoul, and now Hana Tour USA offers a five-day tour called the Gangnam Style Experience for about $1,600 per person through the end of next month including airfare from LA. America Tour offers a six night Gangnam Style Premium tour for $1,400 per person.
I don’t know that I’d bother taking a Gangnam Tour. But I would put Korea on your bucket list.
